RING TWO:TIME MACHINE
Ring Two: Time Machine
March 2026, Seyðisfjörður, Iceland
10ft x 10ft x 2ft
Stainless steel, rocks (various)
Time passes faster in the mountains than it does at sea level. It is not just the clocks that slow down: lower down, all processes are slower. Ultimately, time moves slower in stronger gravitational fields. A mass slows down time around itself. The Earth is a large mass and slows down time in its vicinity. It does so more in the plains and less in the mountains, because the plains are closer to it. The Earth is a planet dominated by solid rock and metal. Our vicinity to rocks change our perception of time
The space between different time perceptions has been measured down to a scale of 33 centimeters. Only 33 centimeters away from you and from me is a different experience of time.
This space holds all of our time experiences collectively. Each of us placing a rock at a vertex, we establish our experience of time. With 33 centimeters between each other, acknowledging that no experience is alike. It is only when the experiences are connected and we meet each other in this place, do we become “the school.”
I could only stand still
When I was in multiple places at once
A corner that was made on purpose
Rocks for shoes
Time jumping in process
I’m still still
was and will be, together
Time places rocks
A front view of the sunset
Mountains broken into pieces
Only one side gets a tan
I can’t lift this rock
Gravity bested by centimeters
Seems nonmoveable
Fated to an experience of time
I find the heaviest thing I can find
Turning it over in my hand
If time is slower,
Do I get more of it?
There are so many rocks.
