The Sound of Ache

This sculpture was made while on residency in Salem, Germany. I am interested in found objects, steel, and the sounds they create. A few months into my knee surgery recovery I found it difficult to navigate the castle in Germany. Throughout my residency I got stronger and stronger but not without the dull ache of my surgery.
Walking Slowly

This sculpture was made while on residency in Salem, Germany. While recovering from knee surgery I found myself walking slower then my fellow artists. Because of this I began to appreciate the castle and all of its nooks and crannies. I learned how to emboss from the metalsmith in Salem and made these small windows inspired by the architecture of the castle. As I walked slow around the castle I found these small friends that were too perfect to not be put on display.

When recovering from knee surgery I found myself being re-introduced to my body. Humbled by how difficult it can be to draw a straight line. While constantly looking out to my childhood backyard I wanted to find a way to draw in the space. I decided the sculpture should be made of components not normally found in nature. a perfect straight line and bright magenta.
A Circle

When recovering from knee surgery i found myself being re-introduced to my body. Humbled by the idea of learning how to walk again. I began with 20 minutes, walking, meditating, and in a circle. Then I realized how I could manipulate the grass by pressing it down in a specific direction. The second circle became rings; 4-3 & 3-4. Finally, the lawn mower played a part in its final instillation.
